Tribute to all these fathers!
These fathers who live through misery
For the well-being of the family,
Of the mother, of the sons and daughters.
Yes, tribute to all these fathers!
Who are here upon this Earth
Or those who have already gone
But whose memory lives on.
Tribute to all these fathers!
Who toil on land or out at sea
So that families may live
While they themselves go without.
Tribute to all these fathers!
Who give themselves with an open heart
To work that carries little honour
Just so the family may fare better.
Yes, a true tribute to all these fathers!
From Montréal to Lomé, by way of Antwerp,
Who sacrifice all that is in their pockets
For the flourishing of their dearest.
Tribute still to all these fathers!
Who bellow, grow exasperated, then temper themselves
When the children push them to their limit
For yes, it is those children who are their all.
Tribute at last to all these fathers!
Who never once despair
But put their faith in their progeny
To one day wipe away their stains.
