Do you ever go into the bathroom just to admire the beauty of the tiles (if there are any 😂)?
Do you sometimes walk into the kitchen just to see how lovely your stove is and how big your fridge is?
On your own body, do you think about your lips or your elbow when the need to use them is neither present nor imminent??
If you answered "Yes" to some of these questions, you are an endangered species and I would be very interested in making your acquaintance. You may stop reading and get in touch with me directly.
If, on the contrary, you answered "No" to every one of the preceding questions, then you may keep reading, because you are going to understand.
But first, another question for you: why are you worried, stunned or frustrated when your fellow human beings, your friends, your brothers, your colleagues and sometimes even your own relatives only reach out to you when they need you??
It may sound absurd, but it has happened to every one of us at least once: thinking of someone only when we have something (important) to ask of them, to do for them, to tell them or to give them. It may be money, love, information, affection, time, sympathy, the material as much as the immaterial. But we always think of a person because there is an interest at stake. It may be the personal satisfaction we draw from helping or from giving, or else the pleasure we feel in the company of that particular person at that particular moment.
So let us all be relaxed and serene; let us give one another time, let us be tolerant when someone who has forgotten us for ages reaches out for a piece of information or a favour.
In truth, no one is going to stand in front of their tap just to contemplate its beauty if they do not need water. Let us give, do give, let us give, for there is more joy in giving than in receiving.
But… but… but let us not forget the other side of the coin: if you neglect your contacts, do not expect them to put themselves out to lend you a hand when you find yourself in a tight spot. Man is what he is: rancorous, reckoning, revengeful. Oh yes! we live in a world of opportunists.
So then, will you tend to your network of contacts by checking in from time to time, and calling on them when the need makes itself felt, or will you live off in your own corner, self-sufficient, hoping for the return of a favour you never once sent up?
The choice is yours…
